Diamond Cut, Clarity, Color and CaratsThe Cut makes the biggest difference to the way the diamond looks as it determines how light is reflected. Well cut diamonds reflect more light and sparkle better. The Clarity describes how perfect the diamond is. Most diamonds have tidy scratches and blemishes inside and on the surface. Those with high clarity have very few blemishes, and are rarer and more expensive. The Color of the diamond generally refers to the amount of color present. As colorless diamonds reflect more light, those with the least color are usually worth more. The exception is diamonds with a distinct and desirable color, which are very rare. Carats are a measure of weight, one carat being equal to 200 milligrams, or 0.2 grams. This determines the size.
